UK Court Receives New Details in Dispute Between Aviator LLC and Spribe

(AsiaGameHub) –   Crash game developer Spribe has secured a significant procedural win in its ongoing copyright legal battle against Aviator LLC in London. A High Court judge has issued a ruling regarding the foreign law that will govern essential aspects of the litigation.

Aviator LLC, an entity associated with Georgian entrepreneur Temur Ugulava, is currently contesting Spribe’s ownership of the Aviator brand.

The ruling was delivered on May 22 by Deputy Judge Michael Tappin KC. The case holds significance as Aviator LLC is asserting copyright claims across multiple jurisdictions governed by the Berne Convention.

At the heart of the conflict is the ownership of an airplane graphic used in Aviator-style crash games. This branding has become highly valuable, as the title has evolved into a widely successful online casino game.

Spribe maintains its trademark rights to the imagery and refutes all accusations of plagiarism. In August of last year, the company successfully secured an interim injunction against Aviator LLC.

Aviator LLC argued that English law should determine the applicability of Georgian court rulings in conjunction with foreign copyright statutes.

Tappin KC determined that international laws remain integrated within the English legal framework, noting that copyright protection statutes must be applied in all relevant instances.

The judge ruled that previous court decisions must be evaluated according to the laws of the specific countries involved. Furthermore, the court denied Aviator LLC’s motion for a separate hearing regarding copyright ownership.
